UCHIKAKE 打掛

A luxury and exquisite Japanese art work for your wedding.

A gown worn over a kimono is called an "uchikake," and its history dates back to the Muromachi period (14-16 Century).  It was first worn by samurai women over kosode (short sleeves kimono), and was recognized as a formal dress for women in the late 15th century. In the Edo period (17-19 Century), uchikake began to be gorgeously decorated and was worn not only by samurai women but also by court ladies. Wealthy merchant women who admired this style began to use it as a wedding costume in the late Edo period, and it has been passed down to modern weddings. The bottom hem of the Uchikake is made longer than that of the kimono in order to drag the hem, and the hem is stuffed with cotton called "fuki" in order to allow for better footwork.

Combining tradition and luxury, the uchikake will be perfect for your dream wedding.

SHIROMUKU 白無垢

The most prestigious wedding costume

Among Uchikake, the one made of only white is called " Shiromuku". In Japan, white has been considered sacred as the color of sunlight since ancient times, and white costumes have been chosen for weddings since the Heian period (8-12 Century).  Since the Muromachi period (14-16 Century), Shiromuku has been used as a wedding costume in accordance with the etiquette of ceremonies, and even today it is considered to be the most prestigious wedding costume. Since Shiromuku can only be worn at weddings, it is chosen by many brides.

We will dress kakeshita, which is worn underneath the uchikake, according to your preference, from the traditional white style to the more glamorous style with other colors.

Hiki-Furisode 引き振袖

HIKI-FURISODE 引き振袖

A bridal furisode with a long train, has the longest history as a wedding costume.

Unlike regular kimonos, the hiki-furisode is worn with the hem dragged, and has the longest history as a wedding costume. Kimonos were originally tailored to fit the length of the wearer's height, but as society became more peaceful in the Edo period (17-19 Century), there was more room to enjoy fashion, and women, especially samurai women, began to wear long kimono with the hem dragged inside the house. When they went out, they wore their kimonos pulled up with a kakae-obi or shigoki. This form was taken over by the hiki-furisode for weddings, and the kakae-obi and shigoki, now used as accessories, are remnants of this style. Originally, the black-colored hiki-furisode was worn for weddings, and then the sleeves were cut off and used as tomesode, the kimono for married women. Nowadays, not only black but also colorful hiki-furisode are available, and it is popular among brides because it is lighter without the uchikake and shows off the beautiful obi knot.

We offer a variety of obi knots, from the traditional bridal style to the more modern arrangement ones.
